Five days passed before I was allowed to be around other vampires besides Maciah, Rachel, Nikki, and Zeke, and another three days before they deemed I was ready to leave the mansion and resume normal activities like working out. During that time, I’d almost broken Rachel’s arm, tried to choke out Nikki, and punched Maciah more times than I cared to recall. Zeke was the only one to successfully avoid one of my outbursts. Considering I’d stabbed him once before, I figured he already knew better.

I’d also laughed and cried and been more insatiable than I expected. Thankfully, no matter how many bruises I left on Maciah, he was happy to oblige with the latter issue. Orgasms from my protector were better than any amount of blood they kept feeding me.

Sleep finally came for me that evening after I’d been told that the following day would be the first time I’d be able to get out. Relief had settled my mind enough that I was able to get the rest I’d been missing. Even though I no longer needed sleep, turning my thoughts off for a few hours meant everything to me.

When I woke, I found Maciah leaning over me and grinning. “What has you so happy?” I asked.

“I found someone who knows something about Silas,” he said, and I nearly headbutted him when I shot out of bed.

“What did they tell you?” We’d only found dead ends wherever we looked for information.

“He wouldn’t say over the phone. He wants to meet me at Nyx tonight,” Maciah answered.

“Like right now tonight, or later like tomorrow?” I had no idea what time it was, but I was pretty sure it was after midnight.

“Right now. I was going to leave you a note, but you began to stir when I opened the door. I’ll be back as soon as I meet this guy,” he said.

“I’m coming with you.” I was already scrambling out of bed. I could be dressed in mere seconds with my new speed.

Maciah grabbed my arm. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Amersyn.”

My eyes narrowed on him. “I’ve been caged for over a week. I have passed every test you’ve thrown at me the last two days. I’m going with you.” My voice was even, there were no spikes in my emotions, and I hadn’t had blood in hours. I was more than capable of leaving the house without having anything go wrong because of me.

“Please, stay here,” he said, eyes pleading with me.

“I can’t do that. You should have left without saying goodbye if you wanted that and you know it,” I replied.

As he stood there, I wasted no time getting dressed. Using my vampire speed, I had on black jeans, my favorite boots, and a dark green top. Technically, I didn’t need stakes any longer—I could kill vampires with my bare hands—but I still tucked a couple into each boot before thinking about my contacts Nikki had given me.

We were going to a supernatural club, so
